Former Los Altos High School school psychologist Nicolás Betancur will serve as the school’s new assistant principal and Associated Student Body adviser beginning next school year. He was formally recognized during last Thursday’s board meeting and succeeds Suzanne Woolfolk, who will become principal of Alta Vista High School.

Before transferring to Los Altos High School in 2016, Betancur served as a school psychologist for Egan Junior High School and public schools in Massachusetts. He most recently served as co-principal and student support counselor for the Mountain View–Los Altos Summer School where he performed administrative duties such as recruiting and enrolling students, collaborating with the Special Education administrator and helping launch a new bridge program for incoming ninth graders.

Betancur has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Vassar College and a master’s degree in Psychology and Education Specialist degree from Tufts University. He is also a member of the National Association of School Psychologists and fluent in Spanish.

“I am really grateful for this opportunity and the trust everyone has placed in me,” Betancur said during the meeting. “I’ve been with this district for six years, and I’ve had the opportunity to work with a lot of our students and families. I’m just really excited and honored to have the opportunity to work with more of them.”
