123 seniors in the Mountain View–Los Altos Union High School District and Palo Alto Unified School District have advanced to the semifinalist stage of the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

These seniors, along with roughly 16,000 other semifinalists, represent the top scoring 1% of students who took the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last year.

95% of the semifinalists are expected to advance to the final stage, which requires an application detailing academic records, community participation, leadership abilities, employment, awards, a letter of recommendation and SAT or ACT scores that confirm earlier performance on the PSAT/NMSQT.

Finalists will compete for $2,500 scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and merit scholarship awards provided by other organizations and academic institutions. Scholarships will be announced in spring 2023.
