Police have identified the individual who left a bomb threat on a bathroom stall at Jane Lathrop Stanford Middle School as a student at the school, according to a Palo Alto Police Department press release sent on Wednesday. The school administration is now handling the incident internally.

The threat was determined to not be credible through a joint investigation between police and school officials. The message was found on Tuesday and threatened to bomb the school on Wednesday. No additional information about the student will be released, according to the press release.

Police officers remained on-site at JLS throughout Wednesday until the incident was resolved, the department said.

Press releases from the police department and Palo Alto Unified School District expressed appreciation for the student who initially reported the message and for those who followed the common mantra of “if you see something, say something.”

School counselors are available for students who may need them, according to a statement from the school district.

Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to call the Palo Alto Police Department at (650) 329-2413.
