Los Altos High School hosted San Francisco storytelling group Porchlight’s “One Giant Leap” event at the Eagle Theater on Wednesday.

The event was part of Los Altos High’s annual Writer’s Week and allowed high schoolers and authors to share a story where they took a “giant leap,” or a risk. It went on for around two hours and garnered roughly 100 attendees.

Los Altos High sophomore Aaron Zhu, a speaker at the event, said that he felt it allowed him to motivate others through his story.

“I wanted to participate … [to] contribute to the school,” Zhu said. “What motivated me was telling the story to others and motivating them.”

Writer Dominic Lim, who spoke about his experience of finding his career as an author, said he felt the environment was supportive and allowed people of all ages to share their experiences.

“[Everyone] is so supportive of all [their] colleagues on stage,” Lim said. “Even though you’re young, you have stories to tell. … Anyone can tell a story.”

Los Altos High senior Macy Watson, who also spoke, said she felt committed to her storytelling on stage, and that the event gave her a good opportunity to share a story and have fun.

“I think that storytelling is super powerful,” Watson said. “Passing on stories from person to person and sharing that … [it’s] just a really cool opportunity.”
