Gunn goes under shelter-in-place due to unconfirmed threat

Gunn High School was put under shelter-in-place today at around 2 p.m. in response to an “unconfirmed threat.”

Less than a mile away, Fletcher Middle School was also placed in a shelter-in-place status, Palo Alto Police wrote in an update, as a precautionary measure. Students remained in locked classrooms throughout the duration of the investigation. 

At around 3:10 p.m., police sent out an update stating that the district and police are working together to ensure the safety of students and staff and have not uncovered evidence of any threat. 

At 3:26 p.m., Gunn Principal Wendy Stratton sent out an update on Schoology announcing that students will be dismissed at the normal time, 3:50 p.m., and that all after school activities have been canceled. Police ended their search shortly before school dismissal, concluding that no threats were found. 

Police remained on campus as students left, and wrote in an update that a news release with further information will be available soon.
