The Mountain View-Los Altos school district board approved Eric Volta to serve as the district’s next superintendent in a unanimous vote this Monday. Volta will replace current MVLA superintendent Dr. Nellie Meyer, who is retiring after five years in the position.

Starting in late March, the district paid $23,200 for an outside consulting organization — Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates — to conduct the interview and search process, according to board records. The candidates were narrowed down in two months through several rounds of interviews, and Volta was identified as the top candidate.

Since 2011, Volta has served as the superintendent of Liberty Union High School District in Contra Costa County and has been employed by the district since 2000. According to board vice president Esmeralda Ortiz, Volta stood out in the search due to his experience as both a longtime superintendent and administrator at LUHSD.

Volta’s final contract will be presented at MVLA’s June 3 board meeting for final approval.
