Today, following an anonymous tip, Los Altos High School underwent a brief lockdown after lunch. Los Altos High sent a ParentSquare message notifying Los Altos High students and families of the lockdown at 12:59 p.m. The lockdown was lifted at 1:10 p.m.

The anonymous tip claimed a student on campus potentially had an “unspecified dangerous object” in their backpack, according to a message from Principal Tracey Runeare, sent at 1:39 p.m.

After hearing of a potential threat, Los Altos High administration called the police, who then contacted the student allegedly in possession of the object. According to Runeare, the situation was promptly resolved by law enforcement.

“At no time was there imminent or immediate danger to anyone at our school,” Runeare said.

Los Altos High senior Ella Omura said previous false fire alarms at Los Altos High led her and her peers to be skeptical that the lockdown was real as opposed to a false alarm or a drill.

“I’m concerned that when actual disasters happen, I fear we, as students, might not be prepared or take it seriously enough, which could cause danger to ourselves and others,” Omura said. “However, I am glad that the staff today took this situation seriously and rightfully exercised caution.”
