State Street Market hosted Head West Marketplace on Oct. 26 for the last time until March 2026. The Los Altos Village Association and Head West partnered to unite the community and provide a safe space for local businesses, according to Kekoa Hager, a coordinator of this particular market.

“We welcome local craftsmen, artisans and merchants that are from the Greater Bay area … to meet the community and have fun,” Hager said.

Head West prides itself on being a marketplace that supports both emerging and established markets, according to its website. The marketplace has locations across the Bay Area, with each site containing unique and different vendors. For different local businesses, Head West has provided an opportunity to sell and display their works as well as interact with the community on a closer level.

“[Head West] gets me out of my own studio as an artist,” said Kate Rotondo, the founder of Equal Clay, a featured business at the downtown Los Altos Head West market. “At the market, I am out seeing people going about their day, having conversations, watching dogs walk by. It’s just delightful to be out in the world with people and get to share my art.”

Mihika Sherma started her business, Dew Drop Homes, nearly two-and-half years ago, after noticing a gap in practical and affordable cotton bed sheets. Spurred by the lack of low-cost bedding, Sherma wanted to bring her handmade, quality home decor to the United States. After moving to the Bay Area, Sherma set up a booth with Head West and was met with a positive outcome.

“When I started out, I was really sad because I just moved to a new place,” Sherma said. “[But], I’ve made so many friends here now.”

Sherma said Head West has the ability to understand what vendors really need to succeed.

“There have been people who have been doing this for so long, so it’s really helpful to get all that insight,” Sherma said.
