Heinrich’s Last-Lap Pass Seals IMSA Win at Laguna Seca

The IMSA championship race at Laguna Seca on May 3, 2026, featured three classes and a dramatic finish.

Laurin Heinrich, driving the No. 5 Porsche 963, made a last-lap pass on Earl Bamber’s No. 31 Cadillac Whelen entry in Turn 5 to secure the GTP class and overall victory for JDC-Miller Motorsports. Heinrich won by 0.758 seconds, giving the team its first victory since 2021. He shared the car with Tijmen van der Helm, marking van der Helm’s first career IMSA win.

In the GTD PRO class, Frédéric Vervisch and Christopher Mies claimed victory in the No. 65 Ford Racing Mustang GT3, earning Ford its first GTD PRO win of the season. It was also the first win for both drivers since 2025.

In the GTD class, Trent Hindman and Danny Formal took the win in Wayne Taylor Racing’s No. 45 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2. Formal also impressed in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series, held the same weekend, where he and co-driver Graham Doyle won both races.
