On Tuesday morning, at least six Bay Area schools received anonymous threats of violence that were later deemed “hoaxes,” according to various police departments. The six schools — Gunn High School, Palo Alto High School, Cupertino High School, Piedmont Middle School, Piedmont High School and Millennium High School — were placed into lockdown.

Palo Alto High School went into lockdown on Tuesday at 11:36 a.m. following an alleged bomb threat. At around 11:50 p.m., the Palo Alto Police Department released an update on their X account @paloaltopolice stating that no active threats were detected. The department designated the threat as one of many recent “swatting” incidents — hoax phone calls reporting an emergency to law enforcement.

At 11:47 a.m. that day, the Palo Alto Unified School District sent out an email stating that they would implement more security measures. Due to the lockdown, over 100 Palo Alto High students taking the American Math Competition had their tests canceled, according to The Paly Voice. All students were dismissed at the normal time.

That same morning, Los Altos High School also received a threat through an online crisis center platform at 11:37 a.m., according to the Los Altos Police Department. The department quickly  declared the threat to be a hoax.

Palo Alto High students said they saw police dogs next to Palo Alto High’s Media Arts Center yesterday morning.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
